On 20th March 2018, the Ministry of Justice announced that it plans to introduce a new Bill, known as the ‘Civil Liability Bill’ to the House of Lords. The purpose of the Bill is to reform the Ogden Discount Rate and the way whiplash claims are handled.
The proposed changes to the discount rate are aimed at making the system fairer and more transparent for insurers and consumers. The government is also looking to reduce the number of false whiplash claims, which it hopes will result in lower insurance premiums going forward.
